What I'm working on.
Don't you wanna know? Well I'm not telling.
Just kidding. It’s been a while since my last upload, and I’ll try to do them more regularly. I’m working on a longer project, so if you want to know what that is, you can read the epilogue here. Until I am ready to post them as chapters on my Substack I will be posting updates and the occasion flash fiction. There will be something at the end of this so stick around till the end if you want to meet Ernie.
So today I thought, for my readers and those warriors of WW and S&S, I’m going to be giving some rough notes from my world that I made/am making so I can get an idea of villages and numbers and stuff. What people do what and how many there are. So here are some notes. (or whatever the heck they’d be called)
This tale has elements of Viking’s and Norse mythology, but is not intended to be a hundred percent accurate. I am creating this world as I want it.
—Each settlement/goes from 100-500 people, with the largest being over 1,000.
—About 5-10% of these communities are warriors, with some of the larger establishments, such as Jarl Erik’s having 15-20% of his 1,200 people being warriors. The rest are farmers and craftsmen.
—Usually only the richest and most important people have armor since it is rare and expensive. Though sometimes armor is won in duels, raids, and battles.
—This continent is Midgard, and across the icy northern seas is Jotenheim, the realm of giants. And beyond that is another bit of land that is before Asgard, or bridges to Asgard. I haven’t thought about that much, but it will be taken into consideration soon.
—Two of the chieftains or Jarls we will encounter. I can’t tell you everything now can I?
-Erik. Rules the single biggest settlement which has actual walls and not just a timber wall.
-Ulf, not as powerful or large as Erik, but has the largest amount of Longboats and his people are the best Seamen.
—Each chieftain has several villages and settlements under his rule, and with these are able to call up anywhere from 300 to, in Erik’s case, 1,300 warriors. These villages, either sworn loyal or subdued, pay tithes to their ruling chieftain.
—In the past there have been Kings (Kronungr) who ruled all the chieftains.
—last one for now. The land to the south is where all the other peoples are, though some of their lands do pierce in between the different Jarls, and some small villages live on islands on the northern shore. There are lots of rivers and lakes in this southern and northern area. This southern land exists, but as of right now it doesn’t play a part; these Viking’s don’t just fight each other. . .
Okay, for your wait you shall be rewarded.
One fateful day, Ernie was walking down the street. His past forgotten. Whether it was a good past or a dark one, no one knew. No one knew Ernie had a past. He was walking home from work when he heard a voice calling his name. A deep, dark voice. “Ernie,” it called. “Ernie, why didn’t you fulfill your promise?” Scared, he turned around. There behind him was a black limo with a shadowy figure inside. “Ernie, you promised me we’d go to that dance at school.” Ernie know who it was in the limo. It was Angie, and she was not happy. He had gotten sick and had been unable to go to the prom. “I was sick,” he said. “NO EXCUSES,” the Angie’s now deep voice roared. Ernie took off running. Looking back he saw the limo racing after him, a beefy arm extending out a window to grab him. He screamed, arms flailing, as he ran in a futile attempt to escape the limo.
God bless,
See you soon O Reader and Friend.
